Massage Therapy
Life can be very busy. Aches, pains, tension, and stress can become part of everyday life, affecting both physical and emotional well-being.
Massage therapy offers time to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the body. At Total Health & Wellness Associates, PLLC, massage sessions are customized around each client’s needs, whether the goal is relaxation, relief from muscle tension, support for physical comfort, or a greater sense of balance.
Our massage therapists may use different massage styles and specialty techniques to help support the body, ease discomfort, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being.

Swedish Massage
Swedish massage uses gentle to moderate pressure with long, gliding strokes, kneading, vibration, tapping, and friction. Massage oil or cream is used to reduce friction, and bending or stretching movements may also be incorporated to help relax the joints.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but uses deeper pressure to help release chronic muscle tension. The focus is on deeper layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia, the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints.

Sports Massage
Sports massage is a form of soft tissue therapy focused on muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It may support performance, help with recovery, and assist with injury prevention.
Sports massage may also incorporate light stretching and active range of motion.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage, including pre- and post-natal massage, may help support comfort, sleep, mood, fatigue, and muscular aches and pains.
Sessions can be offered side-lying with supportive pillows or, when appropriate, using pregnancy foam that allows the client to lie on their stomach without added pressure to the body or baby.

Specialty Techniques
Depending on each client’s needs, our massage therapists may incorporate specialty techniques into a session.
Abdominal massage
May help support relaxation, breathing, low back comfort, and digestive comfort. This technique may be performed through the drape or directly on the skin with appropriate draping and client consent.
Chest massage
May help ease tension in the upper chest, shoulders, neck, and breathing-related muscles. The breasts remain draped at all times and are not massaged.
Reflexology
Involves applying pressure to areas of the feet or hands using specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques. Many clients experience reflexology as a calming and balancing treatment.
Myofascial release
Is a light but effective technique that works with the fascia surrounding and connecting the body’s structures. It may help address restrictions, posture, pain, and overall body alignment.
Trigger point therapy
Focuses on points in the muscles or connective tissue that may contribute to pain locally or in other areas of the body. Treating trigger points may help reduce pain and irritation.
Reciprocal inhibition
Uses gentle resisted movement to help opposing muscles relax. This technique may be useful when certain muscles are having difficulty releasing tension.
Muscle mechanics
Involves active client participation and gentle resistance while pressure is applied to the muscle or attachment area. It may help sore muscles relax more quickly and with less discomfort than some deeper massage techniques.
